Season’s greetings from Nanyuki, Kenya! I send you blessings and an update on my mission with the moms and their children here at Imara International. With your faithful support, we are truly making a difference. Here are two success stories:

A beautiful and talented young lady with a great desire to succeed says “thank you” for all the support I give to her. Today she thanked me for being more than a mom to her, and more than her mom could ever be for her, because I set the bar high, while being an example, teaching her to press on to a higher mark. She said all this with eye contact (not common here) and tears of gratitude rolling down her face.

A mother of one of our young moms doesn’t speak English, yet we communicate. During Family Day this year, she took me aside and had one of our matrons translate for her. She shared her gratitude with me for who we are and what we do.

She told me that her daughter, through some struggles earlier this year, shared with her that she has another mom and that mom is me. This lady told me that she is so grateful that her daughter has this connection with me and she sees such a positive change and much growth in her as a daughter, student, and mom because of who I am in her life.

I humbly share these things because I believe I am simply here, doing what God has called me to do for such a time as this. It is God who gets the glory and honor, not me. I am passionate about helping and enjoy it. The heartfelt words from the girl and the mother are appreciated and make my experience here even more incredible. It’s hard to fully comprehend that these young moms look to me as a mom, and their own moms are okay with, and even grateful for, that relationship!

These experiences and many more have become a part of who I am and what God called me to do. The support and friends that surround me here are amazing. Living clear across the world from my biological family and lifelong friends is nothing I ever imagined I would do. All of this has been possible because of the great support from you: all my family, my friends, and all the acquaintances that I have made in this journey called life.

Thank you for your generous, ongoing thoughts, prayers, and monetary donations. We truly need all three. As you reflect on all we have accomplished together, and the exciting plans we have for 2017, won’t you prayerfully consider an end-of-year gift? Your support makes it possible for me to continue to live and work in Kenya, helping to keep Imara International strong and growing along with our moms and their kids.

And don’t forget to follow my updates during the year on Facebook and on our website at www.imarainternational.org.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in 2017, and thank you for your support!
