Imara International welcomed supporters to an evening of fellowship and awareness on May 5 at the Medina Community Center. Attendees learned about the plight of Kenyan girls, who become pregnant due to abuse by boyfriends, family members, acquaintances, or strangers. These girls are often shunned by their own families and expelled from school. Prenatal care may be lacking, and raising a child in rural Kenya or the streets of a city like Nairobi is a grim reality.
The evening also featured music by Wynand Hansen, Imara International t-shirts for sale, a caricature artist, and of course, ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.
Several thousand dollars were raised at the event, and attendees were encouraged to join the Imara International Facebook page, visit the web site, and share the Imara International story with their friends and family.
