Statement of Faith

Imara International Statement of Faith

WE BELIEVE the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings. They are the revelation of his will for humankind and the final authority in the Christian faith, life and conduct.

WE BELIEVE God exists eternally as three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

WE BELIEVE God made people in His image so that He might have fellowship with us. Being separated from God by our disobedience, we are, as sinful people, incapable of a right relationship to God apart from divine grace.

WE BELIEVE in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His atoning death, His resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His return in power and glory.

WE BELIEVE that through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, God’s Love is revealed and divine justice is upheld, removing our guilt and reconciling us to God. Having risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, He rules as Lord over all and intercedes for us.

WE BELIEVE the Holy Spirit renews our hearts, persuading us to repent of our sins. By the same Spirit we are led to trust in God’s mercy and grace, whereby we are forgiven all our sins, justified by faith in Christ, adopted into God’s family as His children. This enables us to live a life of godliness and effective service in the world so that all people may see our good works and the Gospel of grace at work in our lives and be drawn to and glorify our Father who is in heaven.

WE BELIEVE that God, by His Word and Spirit, calls us, endowed with the gifts of the Spirit and called by Christ to preach the Gospel, to carry on the ministry of reconciliation, to relieve human need and to strive for justice for all.

WE BELIEVE in the universal church, invisibly uniting all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ as brothers and sisters.

WE BELIEVE that all people have sinned against God, and are therefore deserving of God’s judgment.  We believe in the good news of the Gospel, that Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and was buried, that He rose again to provide forgiveness and eternal life for all who, by the grace of God, trust in Him.  We believe in the grace of God, who has saved us, not because of who we are or what we have done, but as a gift received by faith alone.
